Famine, Pits, charity and UNO

Our scripture clue on Wednesday was from Heleman 11:5-6....

"....And there was a great famine upon the land, among all the people of Nephi........for the earth was smitten that it was dry, and did not yeild forth grain in the season of grain...."

So I decided that the kids needed a FAMINE. A four hour famine. Where they were not allowed to eat or drink anything! Aren't I just so mean?   It was all for a good purpose. We were going to end the famine at a restaurant and I wanted them to be starving!!!

See... I'm not all bad!

So about noon when our famine finally came to an end, we got take out from the restaurant of their choosing and headed over to the pool to enjoy our non-famine in the pool. It was 100 the kids were especially grateful to cool off. And may I add................ they actually finished their lunches for once!

Famine = Success!

D&C 122:7 was our scripture clue on Thursday. It says...

"...And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience , and shall be for thy good."

So we went to Ikea's play land where there us a pit of balls to jump in. Although this is not the type of "pit" the lord was referring to, by any means, the kids had fun and also learned a few things. We talked about matter what happens in this life, it is to teach us something that will be for our good. What comfort this sweet sentence gives me!

Friday our scripture clue was from Alma 1:27 which says.....

"And thy did impart of their substance, every man according to that which he had, to the poor, and needy, and the sick, and the afflicted;"

So we went through the house and loaded up our car with stuff to donate to charity. The kids worked really hard lugging everything from the basement out to the car. They won't admit it, but I know they felt good inside.

Saturday our scripture clue was from  Moses: 7:18 which says....

"And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them."

So we played UNO as a family....because, you know..... UNO means ONE!  Of course we had lots of prizes for the winners...but we also gave out prizes for good sportsmanship because everyone is so competitive and there is usually crying.

So that is the end of this very exciting week.  Are you guys bored to tears?
