Nourish The Seed

Today was such a wonderful teaching opportunity as we discussed our scripture clue and activity.
Alma 32: 37-38:

"And behold, as the tree beginners to grow, ye will say: let us nourish it with great care, that it may get root, that it may grow up, and bring forth fruit unto us. And now behold, if ye will nourish it with great care it will get root, and grow up, and bring forth fruit.

But if ye neglect the tree, and take no thought for its nourishment, behold it will not get any root; and when the heat of the sun comets and scortcheth it, because it hath no root it withers away, And ye pluck it up and cast it out. "

The chapter basically talks about planting the seed of faith in our hearts and then nurturing it with good works so it can grow. We discussed what a seed needs so it can grow and produce fruit:  Sunlight, water, good soil, etc.  We also talked about how it would also need to be weeded occasionally to remove anything that might be stealing it's nourishment away.

Just as in our own lives, we need to take care to nourish our faith by attending our meetings and reading our scriptures and praying............. and all that jazz, in order for our faith to grow. But we also need to repent daily to remove those "weeds" that reduce our spiritual nourishment.

So after our discussion, we headed over to the nursery where the kids each chose their own plant to nourish and take care of .

Lexi wanted a raspberry bush.

Joe and Derek wanted pepper plants:  Derek got a red, and Joe got a green pepper:

And me and Sebastian chose a tomato plant. (:

As they carefully nourish their seedling, I hope it will be a reminder for them to also nourish their faith.
