A Christ-Filled Summer

I love that summer provides a great opportunity to spend more quality time with all my children and teach them valuable skills and knowledge that they don't necessarily learn at school.  We've had fun the last few summers with Scripture Summer , Bible Summer, and Summer With the Prophets.  These little plans have been so worth the effort and have really strengthened the children's relationship with each other and their Savior.

This Summer we are doing something a little different.  Our theme is ....

 "ATTRIBUTES OF CHRIST"

Since there are 10 weeks in the summer, I have chosen 10 different attributes of the Savior to guide our summer activities.  Particularly the 5-6 letter ones, as each letter will be the beginning letter for our summer activity that day...Monday-Friday or Saturday.

I have chosen 10 attributes, but if I feel inspired at the time, they certainly may change.

HERE THEY ARE

WEEK 1:  TRUTH:
T:   John 7:18 "He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true and no unrighteousness is in him"

R:  Mark 15:2:  And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it".

U:  Mathew 22:16:21 "And they sent out unto him their disciples with the herodians, saying, Master we know that thou art true, and teacheth the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man, for thou regardest no the person of men"

T:  Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold"

H:  1 John 3:18 "My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth."

WEEK 2:  MERCY:

M:  John 8:11 "Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?  She said, No man, Lord.  And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

E:  Mathew 15:22 "And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is vexed with a devil.  But he answered her not a word.  And his disciples came and besought him saying, send her away; for she crieth after us......then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it unto thee even as thou wilt.  And he daughter was made whole from that very hour."

R:  Mathew 17:14-18 "And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him and saying...Lord have mercy on my son; for he is a lunatick, and sore vexed; for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. .......And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour."

C:  Mathew 20:30-34 "And behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out saying, Have mercy on us, O lord, thou son of David.......so Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received sight and they followed him."

Y:  Jude 1:2 "Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied"

WEEK 3:  LOVED:

L:  Romans 8:39 "Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to seperate us from the love of God, which is Christ Jesus our Lord"

O:  John 19:26-27 "When Jesus therefore saw his Mother, and the disciples standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son.  Then saith he to the disciple, behold thy mother! and from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home."

V:  John 15:12-13 "This is my commandment, that ye loved one another as I have loved you.  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

E:  John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another, as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.  By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

D:  John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

WEEK 4:  SERVED:
Mosiah 5:13 "For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart."

WEEK 5:  HUMBLE:
Mathew 9-26 "And when he was come into the house, the blind man came to him; and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this?  They said unto him, yea Lord.  Then touched He their eyes saying According to your faith be it unto you....and their eyes were opened and Jesus straightly charged them saying, see that no man know it"

WEEK 6:  OBEYED:
Luke 22:42 "If thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but thine be done."

WEEK 7:  HEALED:
Luke 4:40 "Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him, and he laid his hands on everyone of them, and healed them."

WEEK 8:  CARED:
"Mathew 14:14 "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick"

WEEK 9:  QUIET:
Mark 14:61 "But he held his peace, and answered nothing"

WEEK 10:  CONTROL:
Mathew 4: 2-4 "And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, if thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.  But he answered and said:  "It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God"

So this is how it works......

During the week of "LOVED" for example, we would do something together that begins with the corresponding letter..... that may also be showing that attribute.....

Monday:       L (Loaves of bread delivered to neighbors)

Tuesday:       O (Orange Julius free-stand outside)

Wednesday:  V (Volunteer at the homeless shelter)

Thursday:     E (Entertain another families children)

Friday:           D (Drive and visit someone lonely)

Each day I will find a scripture story such as the ones above, about a time the Savior showed that particular attribute.  Some days may be more exciting than others , as far as activities.  Some may not correlate with the attribute much...but my goal is to have at least one activity during the week that will teach that quality.  If we have a letter N...in there somewhere we may actually do NOTHING! Lol......

Anyways....won't you join us and then share all of your fun ideas too?

How thankful I am for the example of the Savior who truly leads the way!
